Book Festival
Taobuk is a yearly international book festival that takes place in the ancient Sicilian town of Taormina.
The festival hosts a variety of cultural events related to a common thread that changes every year.
The theme for the 2016 edition was “the otherness”, and how this concept is essential in building a culture of dialogue among different civilisations

Problem
The festival commissioned the students of Abadir - Accademia di Design e Arti Visive to produce a series of creative assets aligned with the festival visual identity to promote awareness, enhance visibility, and simplify the visitors’ overall experience. The requirements included:
- Highlight participation of the shops supporting the initiative.
- Design a device to showcase selected books in line with the visual identity.
- Engage and encourage visitors to actively take part in the festival activities.
- Design Flyers, map and postcard invitations.
Solution
We presented a project titled Design Promenade – a solution consisting of an interactive installation positioned in the town’s main square connected to a visual system that guides the visitors through the stops of a thematic walking tour.
Each participating venue within the tour uses a set of custom-made devices to showcase a featured book, an iconic object, and a message challenging the users’ perspective on the concept of otherness.
The installation serves as a gathering point and is a public invitation to encourage visitors to express their opinions and feelings on the theme of the festival.
